The Candlelight Party (CP) has announced that it will continue appealing to the Ministry of Interior for permission to join in the next election.
During a press conference yesterday, Hong Sok Hour, Chief of Cabinet of the CP, said that the CP will continue its efforts to find a solution with the Ministry of Interior and the party hopes that the new government will help to offer a solution related to its lost original registration documents.
“We are asking for the government to make it easier for the CP to register as a valid political party with a list of candidates for the next national and sub-national elections,” he said.
He noted that the CP has worked hard to find a solution to the problem of the missing original document number 193, dated March 23, 1998.
“Our party has been in contact with the ministry since the beginning of 2023 during the registration phase for political parties and candidates for the national election,” he said.
He added that the ministry, which is responsible for issuing original registration documents for political parties, has not yet offered any solution to the CP.
Last week, the CP submitted a letter requesting to meet with Interior Minister Sar Kheng asking for assistance. However, the ministry asked the CP to wait until the new government is formed.
Sok Hour expressed his regret over the ministry’s refusal to accept the request to meet Kheng, in an effort to help work out a solution for the lost registration document.
